oliver schories is neither a friend of dogmas nor an antagonist of reflection. he winks affectionately to his musical past with his fourth album, to at the same time bethink himself of his musical core. accordingly profound and day-dreamfully rests relatively definitely in itself, without having any demand to be danceable. schories has allowed to let himself go and to listen into himself. in twelve tracks he tells about his experiences and allows a very deep view. who listens to music with the heart will understand what his ensouled basslines and oceans of melodies are telling. he came down to rest solid as a rock and knows where he belongs to. and apparently he feels relatively well over there. how sweet, that he lets us listen so closely.

after releasing brand new material on dum034, dum records are dipping into the label boss’s production archives for the next one: it is a reissue that features tracks from a number of classic mono junk releases. two came on trope records, one in 1995 and one in 1993, and the last pair of cuts come from 1996 when they were released on plug research. arguably some of the influential finnish producer’s finest work, all of the tracks here emphasize how long he is operating on the top of his game already.

derrick carters seminal sound patrol album originally released in 1994, * sweetened - no lemon*, will see a re-release in january 2016. the alias provided a place for carter to explore deeper and sometimes more atmospheric styles. the sound patrol record originally came out via chicagos organico label, while derrick carters own arts & labour is handling the reissue. the triple vinyl re issue adds four new unreleased tracks. the whole album has been re mastered for 2016. this follows a limited edition sampler 12 inch released in 2015 which contained another 2 unreleased tracks.

youth isn’t usually associated with wisdom, or depth or complexity for that matter. most 22 year-olds are still figuring out how a washing machine works but in the case of howes (the solo project of manchester-based john howes) he’s making electronic music that is operating on innovative and experimental levels one might expect from a hardened career musician hitting their stride. having released a more house-oriented 12” on melodic a couple of years ago, his debut album proper is a record that is as expressive as it is cohesive. it’s a release that floats between nocturnal stillness and insomniac driven intensity. the shift, howes says, “comes from the forced and narrow nature of a lot of electronic music. most modern electronic music to me is too safe in terms of ambition, sound design and intention.”

watch your step and follow up closely: jascha hagen is ahead to take us back on the railroad tracks to a different time. from beam to beam and foot by foot this soundtrack of long gone adventures paints vivid memories in modern colors. jascha knows his craft and how to combine past and present like few others. the result is a lovely luettje two-track ep with a distinct atmosphere driven by lush beats.
since every treasure needs its chest they ship on a limited 7 inch with a special laser-carved sleeve. the sirens would be pleased.

can t joke with dexy is the opener here and is a bumpy, edgy house cut with tense and nervy keys jangling above a roughshod drum line. it grows ever more dark and comic and things roll on before faith is a more breezy, airy house groove. the drums here dance a nimble dance, thin synths and emotive chords all come in rich layers and a lo-fi percussive line proves how frey can conjure up idiosyncratic sounds with ease. like its title suggest, ghosts is a hauntingly atmospheric track with icy hi hats, pixel thing and hugely melancholic chords and harmonic bells all adding a sense of calm and serenity to turbulent drums deep down below. lastly, scale is a sub 100bpm crawler with fat elastic synths strung up between lazy kicks. two filtered spoken word lines add plenty of weirdness to this soupy bit of cosmic seduction and round out an ep that is stuffed with fresh ideas and great sonic invention.

excellent debut release from the berlin-based imprint initial compiling four heavy techno tracks from the most interesting names in the scene. on the a side, young producers uvb and setaoc mass provide with two fierce and unforgiving berghain-esque cuts - whilst on the flip, two old-timers show how it is done, with patrik skoog showcasing his dubby and minimal signature sound on *stone grey* and brendon moeller (as echologist) killing it with an acid-rave banger! comes beautifully packaged in a silk-screened sleeve by artist franck itow. limited to 500 copies, no repress.

an ep of golden bug on lddlm has been a long-time coming. paths crosses, encounters, similitudes. but it took all of us time to agree on how golden bug should fit into our mortal ethics of fragmentation: we don t want to sound like anybody else, each track on the ep should all sound different. the french but barcelona based producer played our game, anticipating his future and very diverse album with a spook yet catchy 12inch. wild boys was an instant ear-catcher, some proto funk with a very strong vocal by yan wagner that made it sound like duran duran on speedball. it was hard to take it to another level but lord tusk, one of our favourite producers of the emerging -no genre london scene beefs it up, kraftwerk way. its moody as we all are. ik voel je shows the more experimental spaced out side of golden bug, we d call it space rock if we had to. do not neglect l-horloge, it s slow, dark, menacing but it s a real time bomb if tuned correctly.

the follow up to skyzoo’s acclaimed debut lp “the salvation”, 2012’s “a dream deferred” is finally available on vinyl. the fan favorited project includes guest spots from jill scott, freeway, talib kweli, raheem devaughn and more, and boasts production by !llmind, jahlil beats, 9th wonder, black milk dj khalil and a host of others. after three years it’s now available on limited edition translucent dark blue colored & smokey marbled wax for your collection.

and just like that, sounds of the city bring out a new walt j ep! the label is fast becoming recognised for its ability to force mythical house producers from chicago back into the studios after decades of hiatus, and we still don t know how they manage it! after brian harden s recent stormer, this three-tracker by the great walt j is just what we need to sooth our evenings a strong beat winds into starry melodies and forward-thinking percussion on test your limits, while simplicity (the atkins tribute) calls all stations to detroit and lays down some utter truth it s exactly the sort of house music we want to hear bald, fiery, and deep as hell. bypolar, on the other hand, is classic walt just doing his thing dope samples, heavy chords, and dusty drum swings. the quintessential house shit.

busted tape heads and lashings of noise, lento whips his limiter to bring dark heavy bespoke rhythms direct and raw from the source. sparse abstract drum work puncturing seductive ghostly vocal cuts and noir-jazz samples, with an evocative tension mark the a-side grooves. while the b-side track mantle of strength takes things closer to the club with an example of just how good his drum craft can be.

detroits jared wilson provides the 10th release for super rhythm trax and it lives up to it s title.
on *plate mining* and *idea of a deep state*, jared goes in deep with lush, strings that sooth you as the 303 works it s magic underneath. while *how deep* provides a brooding acid line and works the percussion. minimal but deadly.
jared has long been on the srtx want list after proving himself as a master craftsman with a slew of classy releases on his own 7777 label. super rhythm trax is overjoyed to have him on the roster being one of the most skilled knob twiddlers out there who knows how to work it but also and perhaps more importantly, when to hold back.
